It was the result of a variety of cultural influences, including the return of Latin influences from the east, the fall of the Western Roman Empire, and the barbarian invasions. The period lasted until the 14th century, when the Renaissance revival came to an end.

The second style was characterized by Gothic architecture that was the architectural style most loved during the Middle Ages. Romanesque architecture can be seen in many buildings, not just ones built in the past. It is also found in modern structures like buildings and monuments. The Romanesque design can be found in a variety of works of art, like sculptures, architectural designs, stone statues, and jewelery. Certain of these were specifically designed to reflect Romanesque architecture. You can see intricate designs on the roofs of a variety of Romanesque churches in Rome. They are reminiscent of earlier Romanesque structures, but the designs have been updated to reflect more current tastes. Many modern churches include Romanesque architecture into their interior design as well as the exterior.

Urban renewal is the process of transforming older buildings in cities to make them more efficient, beautiful and affordable. Romanesque architecture was used in the original design of these buildings to support the weight of the larger elaborate designs that were erected on the roofs.
